{A year ago}
My hazel orbs studied the fragile frame of my mother who was in tears. "Momma, tell me what's wrong, please," I whispered as I tugged on the fabric hanging from her tiny wrist trying to get it out of her. The only response I recieved was a simple shake of her cranium, which did nothing but confuse me. I didn't quite understand what my mother was going through, no matter how it made us both feel. There was something much deeper than what she was telling, but I knew the secret would not come out of her. I noticed her small frame had grown tinier since she met him. I never did particularly like that man, Dennis. He had a.. crazy.. vibe coming from this man. Never seeing what she saw in him, I just blew it off. One thing was for sure, I refused to be around it, meaning that for the first time in my life I moved into my dads house.
{A few months later}
Starting recently, my mother had began to contact me more than normal, mainly letting me know where she was. Something was up, I just knew it. "Mom, what's going on? Why are you constantly trying to hide from him?" She continued to never answer my questions, which led me to the person we always could count on. The old wise man, who was always a safe house to my mom and I. If anyone would know anything, it would be this man. We sat down to chat, something we very seldomly did nowadays. I was always busy, and quite frankly tried to keep myself seperated from my mother. Her appearance lately had me on edge and suspicious, but I never questioned her. After our conversation, everything was made clear to me. Dennis didn't only have a crazy vibe, but he was crazy. Pictures, that I would rather not have seen, have been showed to me, and everything down to the drug that had caused her appearances to change was expressed to me. This was a lot to take in.. It was very difficult to process all of this information, but I couldn't just stand there and do nothing. What can I do? A call to a lawyer didn't do anything to help, she was there at her own will. Letting this man brutally beat her.

My mothers name has hit the news, which really scared me. It had been two weeks since anyone had last seen her, but I honestly didn't think much of it. This isn't the first time she had disappeared from him, but why hadn't anyone heard of her in two weeks, the last person to see him was Dennis. The whole thing seemed sketchy, but I just blew it off and tried not to worry myself with it, I had school to get through.
{September}
The news spread quick, Dennis had been arrested. This brought some relief to me, as we were all expecting the worst possible outcome, who wouldn't? The signs were all there. Three days after his arrest, our County Sheriff's enlisted the help of the FBI in order to search the land, as they did not have any type of materials, especially compared to the FBI. The lead detective called us in the next day, that Wednesday. I rushed home from work and waited to be picked up by an old friend of my moms. While there, they explained to us everything that had been going on. There was digging going on during the investigation, and for about three hours some tents were up, meaning something was found. We were nervous, and I didn't know what to think while sitting there the next day. Another man had come forward, someone who helped Dennis. They explained to us what had happened, said that there is a line that once it is crossed, you can't ever go back. They believe Dennis only intended on torturing her, like he always did, but the line was crossed. There was no going back. He enlisted the help of a person, someone who felt forced into being this mans friend. He was very inimidating. Together, they disposed of her body. They burned it in his fire pit in the backyard of Dennis' house. All of the information, the shocking details, were almost too much to handle, but I have to be the strong one. I have only told a couple of people this information, which isn't supposed to be released due to confidentiality. But, it's my mother, right?!
{Now}
Due to stress lately, I decided to go out to a party a friend of mine was throwing. This was a huge party, and despite me not knowing many people there, I planned on getting wasted. I sat outside smoking a cigarette watching the world spin. There was many people outside smoking also, and many people inside the large house. I threw my cigarette down and walked back inside. Despite the large buzz I had going, it just wasn't good enough. I took a few more shots before yelling out "McKenzie is here!" Then making my way inbetween everyone to dance in the middle of the room, attracting attention.
